‘Meat, Fish and Aubergine Caviar’ is een fotoserie van de Oekraïense fotografe Alex Blanco (1988). De serie bestaat uit een reeks intieme foto’s van haar ouders. Zij begon haar ouders te fotograferen nadat haar vader in 2016 werd opgenomen in het ziekenhuis van Odessa voor een zware operatie. Blanco fotografeerde haar ouders in een poging als dochter afstand te nemen van de situatie en het onderwerp als fotografe te objectiveren. De cameralens werkte als een soort schild. Zij zette het project voort tot 2019 toen haar vader was hersteld en haar ouders hun dagelijkse routine weer konden hervatten.
Met haar nieuwe serie ‘Divchata’ (meisjes in het Oekraïens) laat Blanco zien hoe mooi, uniek en verschillend Oekraïense vrouwen zijn. Uit alle 25 provincies portretteert ze één vrouw en laat zo zien dat ze allemaal op hun eigen manier vechten voor een vrij Oekraïne: een land vol liefde, kracht, verzet en veerkracht.

'Meat, Fish and Aubergine Caviar' is a collection of photographs by the Ukrainian photographer Alex Blanco (1988). The series consists of a series of intimate images of her parents. She started photographing her parents on a regular basis when her father was admitted to hospital in Odesa in 2016 for serious surgery. By photographing her parents, she made an attempt to take a step back from the situation, thus using the camera lens as a shield. She continued photographing her parents until her dad was fully recovered and her parents were able to proceed with their normal day to day life.
With her latest series 'Divchata' (from Ukrainian: girls) Blanco shows how beautiful, unique and diverse Ukrainian women are. From each of the 25 provinces a woman is portrayed, therefore showing that they are all in their own way fighting for a free Ukraine: a country full of love, strength, resistance and resilience.
