Tijdens de Corona-lockdown zat fotograaf Lukas Göbel met zijn gedachten opgesloten in zijn atelier in Amsterdam. Geïntrigeerd door een patroon van vlekken in een stapel gebruikte koffiefilters keek hij ineens anders naar zijn afval, namelijk door de ogen van een fotograaf. Dit was de start van een serie waarbij hij met een deel van zijn afval stillevens heeft gemaakt.
Met ‘No (still) life to waste, afval bestaat niet’ draagt Göbel bij aan het bewustwordingsproces van de circulaire transitie. Door zijn eigen afval te recyclen tot stillevens, hoopt hij mensen te stimuleren om na te denken over hoe ze zelf bewuster en duurzamer kunnen leven. Göbel laat met de uitvoering van zijn eigen project zien dat er vaak een duurzaam alternatief mogelijk is. Zo zijn de foto’s geprint op duurzaam fotopapier met hennep. De lijsten heeft Göbel zelf gemaakt van oude vloerdelen.

During the Corona lockdown, photographer Lukas Göbel was locked up in his studio in Amsterdam, alone with his thoughts. Intrigued by a pattern of stains in a pile of used coffee filters, he suddenly looked at his waste through different eyes, namely through the eyes of a photographer. This was the start of a series in which he made still lifes using part of his waste.
With “No (still) life to waste, there is no such thing as waste”, Göbel contributes to the awareness process of the circular transition. By recycling his own waste into still lifes, he hopes people will think more consciously about a more sustainable way of living. With this project, Göbel also shows that a sustainable alternative is often possible. The photos, for instance, have been printed on hemp. Moreover, Göbel made the frames himself using old floorboards.
