A Rite for Ruins is een nieuwe muzikale voorstelling van kunstenaar Publik Universal Frxnd, gecomponeerd in samenwerking met Janne Kosmos en Silva Westera. De voorstelling brengt hedendaagse orgelmuziek, cello, zang, en sculpturen samen. Het werk is een reflectie op hoe we in turbulente tijden van maatschappelijke achteruitgang rouw en herinneringen ervaren.
Door verschillende zintuiglijke ervaringen te verweven in de kerk, draagt het werk bij aan de waardering voor zowel het historische kerkorgel als de architectuur van het gebouw. De kunstenaars lieten zich inspireren door uiteenlopende muzikale technieken en stromingen. Dit resulteert in een stuk dat reflecteert op verlies. Niet alleen als einde, maar ook als begin: van herinneringen, verbinding, troost en hoop.
De voorstelling kwam tot stand tijdens een werkperiode in de Groate Kerk, Sint Jacobiparochie, Friesland. Het werk maakt nu een tour langs de iconische orgels in Nederland en ook in het buitenland. Het kunstwerk werd gemaakt met steun van het Mondriaan Fonds en Cultuurfonds.

A Rite for Ruins is a new musical performance by artist Publik Universal Frxnd, composed in collaboration with Janne Kosmos and Silva Westera. The performance brings together contemporary organ music, cello, voice, and sculpture. It reflects on how, in turbulent times of social decline, we experience mourning and memory.
By interweaving different sensory experiences within the church, the work contributes to an appreciation of both the historic church organ and the architecture of the building. The artists drew inspiration from a wide range of musical techniques and traditions. The result is a piece that contemplates loss. Not only as an end, but also as a beginning: of memories, connection, comfort, and hope.
The performance was created during a working period in the Groate Kerk, Sint Jacobiparochie, Friesland. The work is now touring churches and their iconic organs across The Netherlands and abroad. The artwork was made possible with the support of the Mondriaan Fonds and the Cultuurfonds.
